I just realized that I never wrote about our engagement party! When we got engaged, our friends Amy and Arthur offered to host an engagement party for us, and we took them up on that offer. We decided to have the party exactly a week after getting engaged, which turned out to be the Sunday after Thanksgiving, when many people are traveling, so Eddie and I didn't expect a very high turnout. Due to space constraints, we decided to only invite about 30 or so people to the party, and we kept asking each other, "How many people do you have to have so that it's not a lame party?" and we decided arbitrarily on fifteen. So we cheered when we reached that number on the Evite! We were pretty busy in the day before the party, so we didn't know that there were 25 people there! I was so happy that so many people came out to celebrate our engagement with us.
These are some of the lovely details of the party (all photos via Arthur)!
Some of the appetizer spread (there was a dessert & drink table behind this). We had cheese, crackers, pitas, bagels, smoked salmon, a veggie platter, cake, mini sweet potato pies, and various hummus, salsa, and tapenades. Plus of course champagne, beer, and soda.
I had requested that mad libs be incorporated somehow into the party, because I really enjoy them! In fact, if we hadn't already done them for the engagement party, I would actually consider having them at our guests' place settings for some dinner entertainment at the wedding. In my next post I'll share the mad libs that Amy and Arthur (with the help of the guests, of course) created!
We also had toasts! That was great because I don't really want to have open toasts at our wedding (and I think most people would be intimidated to make a toast in front of a bunch of noisy Chinese and Korean people), so it gave people an opportunity to give a toast.
Amy bought two piggybanks at Target and cut out little circles decorated to look like coins so people could put in their "two cents." The "wise owl" was for advice for our marriage, and the "faithful friend" (the dog) was for affirmations in our relationship. I thought that it was really cute and clever! We haven't read the contents of the piggybanks yet because Amy thought it'd be a good idea to save them to have at my bridal shower too. (And Eddie said, "Yeah, I probably wouldn't read them til later anyway...")
We used the photobooth program on Amy and Arthur's iMac to take some fun pictures. I think everyone took a picture except for two of our guests, who left before the photobooth fun really started. You should be able to see the pictures on Facebook. One of the nicest surprises was that Amy had asked our friend Joseph to send pictures of us, and they had created a slideshow/screensaver that was running throughout on their iMac. I was startled since we've only know Amy and Arthur have only known us for two years, and there were 5+ year old pictures! The cute banner that A&A made for us. I took it home with me for potential scrapbooking (although I always say I'll do these things and never do...)!
Thank you Amy and Arthur for the kick-@$$ ;) party!
